Would I Lie To You? Season 13 Episode 3

Ep 3. Episode 3

  • October 31, 2019

In the third episode of the thirteenth season of Would I Lie To You?, host Rob Brydon welcomes an array of celebrity guests to the show, including comedian Chris McCausland, actor Stephen Mangan, presenter Kate Humble, and comedian Ed Gamble.

As always, the show is split into multiple rounds, with each guest taking turns to tell a story about themselves. The catch? Some of the stories are true, and some of them are not. It's up to the opposing team - comedian Lee Mack and broadcaster Victoria Coren Mitchell - to determine which ones are fact and which ones are fiction.

First up is Chris McCausland, who claims that at a party, he ended up accidentally breaking the host's prized antique table, and then attempted to cover it up by pretending to be a magician. Stephen Mangan is next, with a tale about how he once had to explain to the cast of a play he was in that he didn't actually remember his lines, a fact he had been successfully hiding until then.

Kate Humble takes the stand next, regaling the group with a story about how she was once involved in an awards ceremony mix-up that led her to accept an award that wasn't actually meant for her. Finally, Ed Gamble tells a story about how he was once mistaken for actor James McAvoy by a group of excited fans, and decided to go along with it for the evening.

At the end of each round, it's time for Mack and Coren Mitchell to grill the storyteller on the details of their tale, poking holes in any inconsistencies they find. It's a delicate dance, as they try to figure out which stories are legitimate without giving away any information that might help the opposing team.

As always, the show is full of hilarious banter, with each guest contributing their own unique brand of wit to the proceedings. From McCausland's deadpan delivery to Gamble's irreverent humor, there's never a dull moment.

By the end of the episode, it's clear that even the most outrageous stories can sometimes turn out to be true, and that it's not always easy to separate fact from fiction. In the end, it's up to the teams to use their instincts and their knowledge of one another to come out on top.

With its clever format and its all-star lineup of guests, Would I Lie To You? continues to be one of the most entertaining panel shows on television. Whether you're a fan of comedy, storytelling, or just good old-fashioned British humor, there's something for everyone in this episode and the greater series.
