In the early morning hours of day 5, a group of lead teams have arrived at Camp 3. While the other teams rest and wait until morning to depart, Team New Zealand makes a bold decision to tackle the dangerous rope climb on Vuwa Falls in the darkness of night. Farther back, slower teams like Team Able Abels, Team Khukuri Warriors, and Team Onyx are just arriving at Camp 2. Last place Team Stray Dogs also arrives, looking forward to some much-needed rest. At 6 AM, the white-water rafting reopens and Team Atenah Brasil is the first to hit the rapids, recalling the memory of a fallen teammate as inspiration. As teams begin to depart Camp 2 on mountain bikes, Team Costa Rica shares their positive outlook on life and racing. As signs of fatigue begin to show, Team Onyx is anxious to tackle a lengthy trekking section on the next leg of the race. For Team Able Abels, team captain Dan Abel has to balance the responsibility of being a father with being an effective teammate, something he does not take lightly. Making slow progress on the bikes is Team Khukuri Warriors, whose inexperience with mountain biking is beginning to show. High up on Vuwa Falls, Team New Zealand continues to ascend but are beginning to show signs of exhaustion, as the rested teams - Gippsland Adventure and Canada Adventure begin to make up ground in the daylight. Team Costa Rica approaches the white-water rapids, but one teammate is haunted by a traumatic kayaking accident from her past. The final team to leave Camp 2 on mountain bikes is Team Onyx, but they do so with renewed confidence after overcoming earlier setbacks in the race. Rookie team Team Mad Mayrs grow frustrated dealing with the muddy mountain biking, but for Team Endure it's an opportunity for father and son to bond and share their positive outlook on life. While mountain biking, Onyx team captain Clifton falls behind the rest of the team, but as nervous teammates return to find him, they make an unsettling discovery.
