High Voltage Power Lines is the third episode of the first season of World's Toughest Fixes. In this episode, host Sean Riley takes us on an electrifying journey as he goes behind the scenes to discover what it takes to maintain and repair the high voltage power lines that keep the electricity flowing through America's cities and towns.

Riley starts the episode by traveling to New York City, where he joins a team of linemen as they prepare to replace a faulty insulator on a power line that runs over the busy streets of Manhattan. The job requires them to work high above the city, suspended from a cherry-picker crane as they carefully remove the old insulator and install a new one.

Next, Riley heads to Texas to visit the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), where he meets with engineers who monitor the state's power grid 24/7 to ensure that the electricity supply is always stable and reliable. He learns about the challenges they face in keeping the grid functioning smoothly, especially during times of peak demand, and how they use cutting-edge technology to manage the flow of electricity across the state.

In Arizona, Riley joins forces with a crew of linemen who are repairing a massive transmission tower that has been damaged by a wildfire. The tower, which stands over 100 feet tall, requires delicate maneuvering as the crew uses a crane to lift the damaged components off the structure and replace them with new ones. Riley gets up close and personal with the tower's insulators, clamps, and other components as he watches the crew work quickly and efficiently to get the job done.

Back in New York, Riley goes underground to see how power lines are maintained in the city's busy subway system. He meets with technicians who perform routine maintenance on the tracks and wiring systems that power the trains, as well as the ventilation and lighting systems that keep the subway tunnels safe for passengers and workers alike.

Finally, Riley heads to California to witness a daunting project: the replacement of an aging 500 KV transmission line that stretches across the state. The project requires the installation of new towers, lines, and insulators over a distance of 170 miles, and involves the collaboration of dozens of engineers, technicians, and linemen. Riley goes behind the scenes to see how they manage the logistics of the project, including the use of helicopters to transport equipment and the installation of temporary power lines to keep the flow of electricity uninterrupted during the transition.

By the end of the episode, viewers will have a new appreciation for the incredible amount of hard work and expertise that goes into keeping America's power grid functioning smoothly day in and day out. From the linemen who brave heights and danger to the engineers who design and regulate the grid, the people behind the electricity that powers our homes and businesses are truly some of the toughest and most skilled professionals out there.
