Velma Barfield was an American serial killer who used arsenic to kill her victims. Born in South Carolina in 1932, Barfield's first known murder was that of her first husband, Thomas Burke, whom she killed with arsenic in 1970. Barfield would go on to use the same poison to kill several more, including her second husband, Stuart Taylor, in 1974, and her boyfriend, Jennings Barfield, in 1977.

Despite her crimes, Barfield continued to live a normal life and even became a caregiver for elderly and sick individuals. It wasn't until one of her clients became ill from arsenic poisoning that authorities began to investigate Barfield. She was eventually arrested and found guilty of six counts of murder.
