Ep 14. Kenya: Angles of Africa

Located in East Africa, Kenya is a land of many contrasts - from the arid deserts of the north to the fertile lands of the Great Rift Valley. The country offers a vast array of experiences, from world-renowned wildlife safaris to relaxing on pristine beaches.

In this episode of World Travels - the Truth Behind the Byline season 3, journalist and host, Sarah Rodriguez, travels to Kenya to explore the different angles of Africa that make it a unique destination. Sarah begins her journey in the capital city of Nairobi, where she discovers the bustling markets and vibrant culture of the city, as well as its growing tech industry.

From there, Sarah travels to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, where she embarks on a safari adventure to witness the famous wildebeest migration. She observes a variety of wildlife, including lions, giraffes, and hippos, while also learning about the challenges faced by conservationists in preserving Kenya's rich biodiversity.

Next, Sarah visits the Rift Valley, where she experiences the traditional way of life of the Kalenjin people. She participates in a homestay, where she learns about their culture, customs, and cuisine. She also joins a group of local runners for a morning jog and learns about the country's love for long-distance running.

Sarah then travels to the coastal city of Mombasa, where she visits the Fort Jesus Museum and explores the Swahili culture and architecture of the city. She also takes a boat ride to the nearby island of Lamu, a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its pristine beaches and traditional Swahili architecture.

Finally, Sarah ends her journey in Watamu, a small coastal town known for its vibrant marine life and coral reefs. She embarks on a snorkeling adventure to explore the colorful underwater world of the Indian Ocean, and visits the Watamu Marine National Park to learn about their conservation efforts.

Throughout her journey, Sarah discovers the diverse and unique experiences that make Kenya a must-visit destination. She also learns about the challenges faced by the country, from conservation efforts to economic development, and how they are being addressed by the Kenyan people.
