In Workin' Moms season 2 episode 2, titled "Good Mom," Kate navigates the tricky waters of being a single mom while struggling to keep up with her job. Her coworkers at the PR firm, Val and Ian, are skeptical about her ability to balance work and motherhood, and Kate fears that she is failing on both fronts. In a moment of desperation, she turns to her ex-husband Nathan for help with their daughter, but their fraught relationship makes things even more complicated.
Meanwhile, Anne finds herself grappling with her own identity as a mother when her daughter Alice starts to show signs of being a gifted athlete. Anne, who has always prided herself on being a feminist and rejecting traditional gender roles, is understandably conflicted about her excitement over Alice's talent. She worries that her desire to see her daughter succeed in sports is in conflict with her feminism, and seeks advice from other moms in her yoga class.
Elsewhere, Frankie struggles to connect with her newborn son, who seems to be constantly crying and fussing. She feels like she is failing as a mother, and is jealous of her husband's instant bond with the baby. Her anxiety is compounded by her own mother's dismissiveness and lack of support. However, when she takes the baby to a baby yoga class, she starts to see him in a new light and begins to bond with him over their shared love of rhythm and movement.
Finally, Jenny returns to work after a tumultuous maternity leave, only to find that her position has been filled by a younger, seemingly more qualified woman. She is forced to work in a different department, and feels like her career is over before it even started. However, when she suggests a bold new idea to her new boss, she suddenly finds herself in the position of being a mentor to the younger woman. She discovers that her experience and expertise are valuable, and that she has a lot to offer the company.
As always, Workin' Moms offers a realistic, nuanced portrayal of the joys and challenges of motherhood and working life, with plenty of humor, heart, and honesty. Each character shines in their own way, and viewers will be able to relate to the struggles and triumphs of these funny, flawed, and fierce women.
