Ep 10. The Coxswain

The Coxswain is the tenth episode of the first season of the Canadian television series Workin' Moms. The episode first premieres on March 22, 2017, on CBC. The episode runs for about 30 minutes.

In the episode The Coxswain, tension is high amongst the working moms as they struggle to tackle their personal and professional lives on a daily basis. Kate Foster, a new mother, is determined to make her son's first birthday party perfect, but her chaotic work schedule threatens to ruin her plans. Meanwhile, Anne Carlson is trying to hold her business together despite her husband's continued absence, and Jenny Matthews is forced to confront her prejudices when her daughter's best friend comes over to play.

At the start of the episode, we see Kate Foster going through a trying time at work. She's currently working for a demanding boss and is struggling to keep both her personal and professional life in check. Despite this, she's determined to hold a perfect first birthday party for her son, Charlie. Her perfectionism fuels her drive to make the celebration perfect, but her hectic work schedule is taking a toll on her ability to plan the party thoroughly.

Meanwhile, Anne Carlson is still dealing with the fallout of her husband's absence. She's the co-owner of a graphic novel business, but her husband's absence is doing a lot of damage to their clients and customers. Anne is dragging her business along, but without the support of her partner, she's at risk of losing the few customers they have left. In this episode, we see her struggle to hold her business together despite massive setbacks.

Jenny Matthews, on the other hand, is dealing with her daughter's best friend's family, who happens to be a Muslim family. Her daughter's insistence that her friend come over to play forces Jenny to confront her prejudices head-on. The unexpected tension leads to an unexpected twist in the plot, as she struggles to overcome her biases and accept her daughter's friend for who she is.

As these three different stories interweave throughout the episode, the working moms finally come together to try and help each other through their respective struggles. They learn to open up to each other and share their trials and tribulations, allowing them to support one another in ways that can only come from true friendship.

The Coxswain is a standout episode in the first season of Workin' Moms, showcasing the struggles working mothers face every day. The episode is a poignant reminder of how mothers must navigate the work-life balance in today's society, and the struggles that accompany trying to have the perfect life. Despite this, the episode also celebrates the power of friendship and the joy that comes from true connection with other people.
