WordGirl season 5 episode 5, titled "The Fill-In / Word (Hicc)Up!," follows the adventures of WordGirl, a superhero who uses her superpowers and vocabulary skills to protect the city of Fair City from various villains.

In the first part of the episode, "The Fill-In," the city is in need of a new assistant librarian, and WordGirl's alter ego, Becky Botsford, decides to step in temporarily. Becky is excited about the opportunity to help out at the library and share her love for books with the community. However, as WordGirl is constantly needed to fight crime, she finds it challenging to balance her superhero duties with her librarian responsibilities.

As the assistant librarian, Becky encounters a young boy named T.J., who is enthusiastic about learning and loves spending time at the library. T.J.'s appetite for knowledge is insatiable, and Becky is thrilled to engage with his curiosity and introduce him to new books. Together, they embark on exciting literary adventures and spark a deep bond through their love for reading.

Meanwhile, WordGirl's absence in the city doesn't go unnoticed, and the mischievous duo, Chuck the Evil Sandwich-Making Guy and his sidekick, The Whammer, see an opportunity to wreak havoc in Fair City. Taking advantage of WordGirl's absence, they plan to rob the city's most prestigious museum of its valuable artifacts. However, WordGirl's trusted monkey sidekick, Captain Huggy Face, discovers their evil plot and tries to stop them.

Back at the library, Becky realizes that she misses her WordGirl alter ego. She starts to feel guilty for not being there to protect the city from villains like Chuck and The Whammer. Feeling torn between her responsibilities as a librarian and her duty as a superhero, she begins to doubt her ability to make a difference in both roles. However, with T.J.'s encouragement and the community's appreciation for her work, Becky realizes that she can still make a positive impact by sharing her love for learning through books, even when she's not wearing her WordGirl cape.

In the second part of the episode, "Word (Hicc)Up!," WordGirl faces a peculiar challenge. An unlikely villain named the Butcher starts to get hiccups, which causes havoc in the city. Whenever he hiccups, his meatpacking shop undergoes a series of hilarious, yet destructive, transformations.

WordGirl must find a way to help the Butcher get rid of his hiccups in order to restore peace to Fair City. She goes on a quest to gather information about hiccups, consulting scientists, doctors, and even the Whammer's grandmother, who claims to have the hiccups solution. With each hiccup, the Butcher's shop becomes more chaotic, creating a hilarious and action-packed race against time for WordGirl to find a cure.

Throughout the episode, WordGirl's intelligence, resourcefulness, and determination shine through as she uses her superpowers and vast vocabulary to solve problems and defeat villains. With each challenge, she continues to inspire young viewers to embrace knowledge, expand their vocabulary, and find creative solutions to obstacles they may face.

"The Fill-In / Word (Hicc)Up!" is a heartwarming and witty episode of WordGirl that showcases not only the importance of literacy but also the power of friendship, perseverance, and the impact individuals can have on their community. As WordGirl navigates her roles as both a librarian and a superhero, viewers of all ages are reminded of the value of learning, the joy of reading, and the limitless potential that lies within each of us.
