WordGirl is a superhero girl who fights against evil in the city of Fair City. She lives with her adoptive parents, Tim and Sally Botsford, and her monkey sidekick Captain Huggy Face. In season 3, episode 1, titled "Bummertime / The Homerun King," WordGirl faces two new villains and challenges.
In the first segment, "Bummertime," WordGirl has to stop Mr. Big from stealing all the summer vacation activities in the city. Mr. Big, who is a rich and powerful businessman, wants to replace beach balls, amusement parks, and ice cream trucks with dull activities like math camps and chess tournaments. He believes that traditional summer activities distract kids from their studies and prevent them from becoming successful adults.
WordGirl tries to stop Mr. Big by using her superpowers and her intelligence, but she realizes that the best way to defeat him is by showing him the fun and joy of summer. She takes him on a tour of the city and shows him the happy faces of kids enjoying themselves. Mr. Big is touched by this and realizes the importance of balance between work and play. He decides to stop his plan and give kids the summer they deserve.
In the second segment, "The Homerun King," WordGirl has a new opponent: Granny May. Granny May is a retired professional baseball player who wants to become the greatest homerun hitter in history. She creates a special bat that can hit balls out of the park with incredible power and accuracy. WordGirl tries to stop her, but she also has to deal with the fact that Granny May seems to be taking care of her elderly neighbor, Mrs. Botsford.
WordGirl discovers that Granny May is using a mind-control machine to make Mrs. Botsford forget her true identity and believe that she is her granddaughter. WordGirl has to save Mrs. Botsford and stop Granny May from achieving her goal. She uses her wit and her superpowers to confuse and distract Granny May, while Captain Huggy Face sabotages her bat. In the end, Granny May realizes the value of true friendship and teamwork, and she decides to retire from baseball and take care of Mrs. Botsford for real.
Overall, this episode showcases WordGirl's intelligence, bravery, and kindness, as she fights against injustice and helps others in need.
