Plenty of hijinks abound in season 5, episode 14 of Wings, titled "The Faygitive." This classic sitcom follows the exploits of two brothers who run a small airline in Nantucket, and their various friends and family members who get caught up in their shenanigans.
In this episode, things kick off with Joe and Brian Hackett (played by Tim Daly and Steven Weber, respectively) receiving a strange delivery. It's a box of lingerie, addressed to the resident ladies' man, Brian. He denies having ordered it, but everyone assumes he's lying. The real culprit turns out to be their pal Lowell (played by Thomas Haden Church), who secretly ordered the lingerie as part of a prank.
Meanwhile, a fugitive has escaped from a nearby prison, and rumors are flying about where he might be hiding on the island. When the police come to the airport to investigate, everyone gets nervous. Nobody knows it yet, but the fugitive in question is none other than Mark Fay, a former classmate of Joe and Brian's who has always been a bit of a dweeb.
Sure enough, Mark shows up at the airport just as the police are searching it. He's ready to turn himself in, but Joe and Brian convince him to hide out in their hangar until they can figure out a plan. This leads to a series of classic comedy hijinks, as Joe and Brian try to keep Mark hidden while also dealing with their usual problems.
For example, Helen (played by Crystal Bernard), Joe's on-again, off-again girlfriend, is having an allergic reaction to the flowers he sent her. This leads to some slapstick as Joe tries to help her while also keeping Mark hidden. Meanwhile, Lowell is still causing trouble, as usual. He's convinced that the fugitive is actually a superhero, and keeps trying to get him to reveal his powers.
As the episode progresses, the tension ratchets up. The police keep investigating, and Joe and Brian struggle to keep Mark hidden while also dealing with their other problems. They come up with a plan to sneak Mark off the island by disguising him as a woman and having him board a flight to Boston. They even dress him up in the lingerie that Lowell ordered earlier, which leads to some more classic comedy moments.
But of course, things don't go as planned. The police show up at the airport just as Mark is about to board the plane, and chaos ensues. In the end, everyone is caught up in a crazy chase sequence that involves cars and airplanes. It's a classic example of the kind of madcap comedy that Wings was known for.
Overall, season 5, episode 14 of Wings is a great example of the show's mix of zany comedy and lovable characters. The chemistry between the cast is always a joy to watch, and the episode's many plotlines all come together in a satisfying way. Whether you're a longtime fan of the show or just looking for a fun, lighthearted sitcom to watch, this episode has it all.
