In Wild Kratts season 4 episode 4, titled "The Other Martins," Chris and Martin are on a mission to learn more about the different types of martin animals after meeting a pine martin who helped them find their way back to the Tortuga. To do this, they split up and head off around North America to observe various types of martins in their natural habitats.
Chris heads to the forest to observe fishers, a type of martin, and learns about their hunting techniques and impressive agility. Meanwhile, Martin visits a desert location to observe a different kind of martin, the desert kit fox. He learns about how these small, speedy creatures are able to survive in such a harsh environment and observes some impressive hunting techniques.
As they continue their observation missions, Chris and Martin face various challenges and setbacks. Chris has an encounter with a bobcat while observing fishers, and Martin must navigate the harsh desert terrain to keep up with the kit fox. But through it all, they are able to gather valuable information about the different martin animals and compare their different adaptations for survival.
Back on the Tortuga, Chris and Martin share their observations and realize that they have both been observing "true" martins- animals that belong to the weasel family Mustelidae. However, they also discover that there are other animals that are commonly referred to as "martins" in certain regions, such as the palm civet in Asia or the marten in Europe.
To learn more about these other animals called "martins," Chris and Martin set off on a new adventure, excited to continue their exploration and discovery of the animal kingdom. Overall, "The Other Martins" is an exciting and educational episode that teaches kids about the diversity of animal species and the importance of observation and exploration in understanding the natural world.
