Tony Micelli, a retired baseball player, is still trying to find his place in the world after moving to Connecticut to work as a live-in housekeeper for Angela Bower, a successful advertising executive who is also a single mother. In season 2 episode 12, titled "Tony the Nanny," Tony's nurturing side is put to the test when he agrees to watch over nine-year-old Samantha while Angela goes away for the weekend.
At first, Tony is excited to have some quality bonding time with Samantha and looks forward to teaching her how to play baseball. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when Samantha's snobbish private school friends come over for a playdate and Tony's lack of sophistication and refinement becomes all too apparent.
Feeling embarrassed and out of his element, Tony becomes determined to prove to Angela that he can be a proper nanny. He enlists the help of his friend and fellow housekeeper, Mona, who teaches him the finer points of etiquette and social graces.
Meanwhile, Angela's weekend takes an unexpected turn when she runs into her ex-boyfriend, a charming and successful doctor who starts to rekindle old feelings. As she grapples with her conflicting emotions, Angela begins to wonder if she's ready to open herself up to love again.
Back at home, Tony's newfound refinement is put to the test when Samantha's friends come over once again, but this time he's armed with a new arsenal of manners and sophistication. To his surprise, the children seem to enjoy his company more than ever, and Samantha tells him that she thinks he's the best nanny ever.
Feeling proud and accomplished, Tony realizes that although he may not have all the money and status that Angela's friends do, he still has something priceless: a connection with Samantha that can never be bought or faked. As Angela returns home and the weekend comes to a close, Tony finally comes to terms with his identity as a housekeeper and feels content with his place in the Bower household.
Filled with heartwarming moments, witty humor, and plenty of emotional ups and downs, "Tony the Nanny" is a classic episode of Who's the Boss? that showcases the show's signature blend of family values and comedic hijinks. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer, this episode is sure to leave you with a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart.
