Whitstable Pearl season 1 episode 4, "Disappearance at Oare," sees Pearl grappling with a case close to her heart. When her childhood friend Gary vanishes without a trace, Pearl jumps into action to find him. Her investigation takes her to Oare, where the locals are tight-lipped and the clues are scant.
As Pearl begins to piece together Gary's last movements, she discovers that he had been working on something big - something that had the potential to shake up the quiet town of Whitstable. With her curiosity piqued, Pearl digs deeper and uncovers a web of deceit and betrayal that threatens to tear apart the community she loves.
Along the way, Pearl is joined by her put-upon assistant, DC McGuire, who is less than thrilled about being dragged into the investigation. McGuire's snark and skepticism provide a welcome counterbalance to Pearl's dogged determination, and the two develop an increasingly affectionate rapport as the episode progresses.
Meanwhile, Pearl's personal life takes a turn for the complicated when her ex-husband Charlie (played by the charming Howard Charles) comes back into town. As always, their chemistry is electric, but Pearl is hesitant to let him back into her life after their messy divorce. Despite her reservations, she finds herself drawn to Charlie once again, even as she juggles the demands of her job.
As the investigation heats up, Pearl realizes that she must act fast if she hopes to find Gary alive. With the clock ticking, and the town of Oare closing ranks against her, Pearl must rely on her wits and instincts to solve the case. Along the way, she learns some hard truths about the people she thought she knew, and discovers that nothing is quite as it seems in Whitstable.
