Mike Brewer and his team return in the second season of Wheeler Dealers, where they scour the UK for classic cars that have seen better days and then give them the restoration treatment, before selling them on for a profit.
In season 2, episode 11, entitled "Predator Beach Buggy (1)", Brewer and mechanic Edd China take on a new challenge as they attempt to transform a classic, but dilapidated, beach buggy into a sleek and speedy off-road machine.
The team finds the perfect candidate for their next project in the form of a 1960s-era beach buggy, which has seen better days. The buggy has been abandoned in a barn for years and is in need of a lot of work before it can be turned into a high-performance vehicle.
Brewer and China start the process by gutting the buggy of all its old parts, including the engine, transmission, suspension, and brakes. They then begin the process of rebuilding the car from the ground up, starting with a full body refurbishment and a new coat of paint.
The team then turns their attention to the buggy's engine. Initially underpowered, the engine is replaced with a more powerful VW engine that is capable of producing much higher performance. They also install a new 4-speed gearbox to give the vehicle even more speed and agility.
Next comes the installation of new suspension, which is necessary to help the buggy handle the off-road terrain much better. This includes new springs, shocks, and sway bars, which help to improve the buggy's handling and stability.
To complete the upgrade, Brewer and China install new brakes, a new fuel system, and a new interior. Everything is tested on a dyno machine to ensure it is in top working condition.
Overall, "Predator Beach Buggy (1)" is an entertaining and informative episode of Wheeler Dealers, as it shows the amazing transformation that can be made with a old, abandoned vehicle. Brewer and China's restoration work is top-notch, and the results are impressive, with the buggy looking and performing better than ever before. Anyone who loves classic cars, off-roading, or just watching skilled restoration work will find this episode a must-watch.
