In the second episode of the second season of What's New Scooby-Doo?, entitled "Mummy Scares Best," the gang finds themselves in Egypt traveling to see the royal palace of the Pharaoh Shamses. Once they arrive, the gang quickly learns that there is a curse on the palace that causes a mummy to come to life every year to terrorize the palace staff. The curse is tied to the nearby pyramid and the Pharaoh's sacred jewels, which are being kept within the palace.
After meeting with the palace staff, the gang splits up to investigate the palace and its contents. Shaggy and Scooby find their way into the kitchen and encounter the mummy, who chases them around the palace until they accidentally trap him in the kitchen's freezer. Meanwhile, Fred, Daphne, and Velma come across a secret room where they find a map with clues to the pyramid's location and an old newspaper article about a thief who stole the sacred jewels years ago.
As the gang continues their investigation, they learn that the staff of the palace has been keeping the curse and mummy attacks a secret from the outside world so as not to damage tourism. Things take a turn for the worse when the mummy escapes from the freezer and begins rampaging through the palace once again. The gang must work together to solve the mystery and stop the mummy from causing any more damage.
Throughout the episode, the gang encounters various suspects, including the head of security at the palace and a businessman who is interested in purchasing the Pharaoh's jewels. There are also several red herrings that keep the viewer guessing as to who the real culprit behind the mummy's attacks may be. The gang uses their deductive skills and some clever trap-setting to finally catch the culprit and solve the mystery.
Overall, "Mummy Scares Best" is a classic episode of What's New Scooby-Doo? that combines mystery, humor, and adventure in equal measure. It is an exciting trip to Egypt that will keep viewers guessing until the very end.
