In the second episode of Wentworth season 1 titled "Fly Me Away," we get a closer look at the lives of some of the inmates within the prison complex. At the start of the episode, we see new inmate Bea Smith getting acquainted with the daily routine of the prison. She is shown the lay of the land by her cellmate Franky and is also introduced to some of the other prisoners.
Meanwhile, Senior Officer Meg Jackson is trying to keep control of the prison as she deals with a number of issues, including drug smuggling, bullying, and other criminal activities. She soon discovers that an inmate is planning to escape and is working with someone on the outside. As she tries to prevent this from happening, she also has to deal with the arrival of an infamous criminal named Jacs Holt who has just been transferred to Wentworth.
The new inmate is influential and commands a huge following in the prison. She immediately draws the attention of the governor and starts to manipulate some of the weaker inmates in order to gain power. As she rises to prominence, Jacs also causes a lot of tension and friction within the prison as the other inmates start to take sides between her and Bea.
As the episode progresses, the stakes get higher as Meg discovers that the prisoner who was planning to escape is using her daughter as leverage. She becomes desperate to resolve the situation before any harm comes to her loved ones. Meanwhile, Bea is trying to figure out how to survive in the new environment and starts planning a way to get out of the prison. She also develops a close relationship with one of the other inmates, but the relationship is soon threatened as the tensions within the prison start to boil over.
Despite all the drama and danger, there are also moments of humor and camaraderie as some of the inmates come together to help each other out. There are also moments of sadness as the prisoners deal with the difficult realities of life behind bars. Overall, this episode is an intense and engaging look at what life is like in a women's prison and how the inmates cope with the challenges that come their way.
