We'll Meet Again is a documentary series that tells the stories of those who were separated during a major historical event and reunite later in life. In season 1 episode 11, titled "One Day at a Time," host Ann Curry follows the journeys of two individuals who have lost touch with loved ones due to life's obstacles.
The first segment follows a man named Jim, who was just five years old when his father went off to fight in World War II. Jim's father, Ed, was a pilot and was presumed dead after his plane went missing during a mission. Jim and his family never received closure as they were never able to locate his father's remains. Years later, Jim's daughter surprised him with a DNA test for Christmas. The results led Jim to connect with his father's cousin, who had been in touch with Ed's closest friend from the war. The friend shared stories of Ed's life during the war, including information about his final mission. Jim was able to find closure by finally learning about his father's heroic actions during the war.
The second segment follows Debbie, who was forced to give up her son for adoption when she was only 15 years old. She had been sent to a home for unwed mothers by her parents and was unable to keep her son due to societal pressures at the time. Debbie never forgot about her son and longed to reconnect with him. In the present day, Debbie was able to locate her son through a private investigator. She was overjoyed to learn that he had been looking for her as well and had always wanted to meet her. Debbie and her son had an emotional reunion after 43 years apart.
Throughout the episode, Ann Curry emphasizes the importance of living life "one day at a time" and cherishing the moments we have with loved ones. She reminds viewers that no matter what obstacles we may face, it is never too late to try to reconnect with those we have lost touch with.
Overall, "One Day at a Time" is a heartwarming episode that showcases the power of familial love and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. It serves as a reminder to never give up hope and to always hold onto the memories that we have with the ones we love.
