Welcome Back, Kotter is an American sitcom that originally aired from 1975 to 1979. The show follows the humorous and often chaotic lives of a group of high school students known as the Sweathogs and their unconventional teacher, Mr. Kotter. Season 2 episode 19 is titled "There Goes Number 5 (2)".
In this episode, the Sweathogs are faced with the difficult task of replacing their star basketball player, Juan Esposito, who has been suspended from the team. The team is scheduled to play their biggest game of the year against their rivals, Lincoln High, and they know that without Juan, their chances of winning are slim.
The Sweathogs decide to hold tryouts for a new player, but they quickly realize that finding someone who can fill Juan's shoes is going to be harder than they thought. A series of hapless tryouts ensue, including a nerdy kid who can barely run and a girl named Julie who has never played basketball before.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kotter is dealing with his own issues as he tries to impress his new boss, Dr. Strain. Dr. Strain is a humorless man who seems to dislike Kotter and everything he stands for. Kotter is desperate to win him over, so he invites him to watch the Sweathogs' game against Lincoln High.
As the big game approaches, the Sweathogs are still without a star player. Finally, they stumble upon Freddie Washington's little brother, who just happens to be an amazing basketball player. The only problem is that he's only in the fifth grade.
Despite their reservations, the Sweathogs recruit the young prodigy and train him rigorously for the big game. But as they soon find out, having a skilled player like him on the team comes with its own set of problems.
In the end, it all comes down to the big game against Lincoln High. The Sweathogs are playing their hearts out, and they manage to keep the score close. But when their new star player has to leave the game due to his age, it looks like all hope is lost.
Will the Sweathogs be able to pull off a win despite the odds stacked against them? Will Mr. Kotter win over his disapproving boss? Find out in "There Goes Number 5 (2)", a hilarious and heartwarming episode of Welcome Back, Kotter.
