Weird City is a comedic science fiction anthology series set in the near future, created by Charlie Sanders and Jordan Peele for YouTube Premium. The show is set in the metropolis of Weird, which is divided into two classes: Above the Line and Below the Line. Above the Line is for the wealthy and powerful people, while the Below the Line is for the poor and marginalized ones.
Each episode of Weird City explores a different aspect of this futuristic city by focusing on a new story with different characters. The series has a star-studded cast, including notable actors like LeVar Burton, Dylan O'Brien, Ed O'Neill, Rosario Dawson, Michael Cera, Mark Hamill, Laverne Cox, and Sara Gilbert.
The first episode of Weird City, "The One," introduces us to the dating app "The One," which is designed to find a person's perfect match. The protagonist of the episode, Stu (played by Dylan O'Brien), has never had any luck with dating, and he decides to give the app a try. The app then matches him with a girl named Burt (played by Leven Rambin), who is perfect in every way except she is a bit of a slob.
In episode two, "A Family," we meet a couple who are unable to have a baby of their own, so they decide to adopt one from Below the Line. The couple, played by Steven Yeun and Hannah Simone, is excited about their new lifestyle, but they soon realize that raising a kid from Below the Line is not as easy as they thought.
The third episode, "Go to College," focuses on a Below the Line family who is trying to do everything they can to get their son into college, which is only accessible to those living Above the Line. The episode stars Awkwafina and Yvette Nicole Brown as the parents and guest stars Michael Cera as the son's best friend.
The fourth episode, "Smart House," tells the story of a woman named Lexi (played by Emily Ratajkowski) who moves into the smartest house in the city. The house is designed to make her life easier, but it soon becomes apparent that the house is controlling every aspect of her life.
The fifth episode, "The Upgrade," centers on an insurance agent named Tawny (played by Michael Cera), who is obsessed with being Upgraded. Upgrading is a process that allows people to become more like those living Above the Line. When Tawny finally gets Upgraded, he soon realizes that it comes with a price.
In the sixth episode, "Below," the story takes place entirely in Below the Line, where we meet a couple (played by Auli'i Cravalho and Luka Jones) who are trying to make ends meet. When the wife discovers a way to make money by selling her used clothes, she becomes incredibly successful, but at what cost?
The final episode, "Two Girls One Code," follows two brilliant coders (played by Sam Richardson and Zainab Johnson) who are constantly overlooked in the tech industry. When they finally get their chance to present their new app, they soon realize that they are not the only ones with a great idea.
Overall, Weird City is a humorous, thought-provoking, and entertaining series that explores the complex issues of class and technology in a futuristic world. The diverse and talented cast brings the stories to life, and the unique setting and clever writing make the show stand out from other science fiction series. If you're looking for a fun and intriguing series to binge-watch, then Weird City is definitely worth checking out.
