In the twelfth episode of the third season of "Weeds," titled "The Dark Time," the complexity of Nancy Botwin's life continues to intensify. Set in the suburban community of Agrestic, this dark comedy-drama series centers around Nancy, a recently widowed mother-turned-marijuana-dealer trying to make ends meet for her family.
As the episode begins, the fallout from Nancy's decision to hook up with her DEA agent neighbor, Peter, becomes increasingly apparent. Peter's boss, Roy Till, has discovered their secret relationship and is determined to manipulate it to his advantage. Intent on bringing down a drug cartel operating in Agrestic, Roy coerces Nancy into assisting him by becoming his inside informant.
Meanwhile, Nancy's son, Silas, and his girlfriend, Megan, find themselves in a complicated situation when Megan's parents, unaware of their relationship, attempt to set Megan up on a date with another boy. Silas, learning of their plans, is determined to protect their love and prevent Megan from being forced into an arranged marriage. Together, they devise a plan to rebel against societal expectations and take control of their own lives.
Simultaneously, Nancy's younger son, Shane, continues to grapple with the loss of his father and seeks solace through his newfound passion for photography. In an attempt to capture the essence of his deceased father, Shane sets out to take a poignant and haunting photograph. Along the way, he encounters unexpected obstacles that force him to confront the reality of death and the complexities of grief.
Outside of her immediate family, Nancy finds herself embroiled in a precarious business deal with a rival marijuana dealer, Guillermo. Desperate to maintain her position in the drug trade, Nancy agrees to work with Guillermo on a heist, much to the dismay of her confidante, Conrad. As the heist unfolds, Nancy's ability to navigate the treacherous world of drug trafficking is put to the test, and she must rely on her cunning and resources to come out unscathed.
Amidst the chaos, Agrestic faces a pressing issue that threatens the well-being of the entire community. A contagious disease outbreak begins to spread, prompting panic and fear among the residents. Nancy, ever the opportunist, sees this as a chance to capitalize on the situation. She devises a plan to corner the market on medicinal marijuana, creating a lucrative business venture in the wake of the town's health crisis.
