In Wayside season 2 episode 3 titled "Sideways Protest / Be True To Your Elf", viewers are taken on a journey through the wacky world of Wayside school. In the first segment, "Sideways Protest", the students of Wayside school are up in arms about the new lunch menu that has been introduced, one which includes healthy and nutritious options. All the students are used to the old menu which consisted of sugary and unhealthy foods. Todd, the class president gets everyone to protest against the new menu, but things don't go as planned. They end up protesting on their sides, thanks to Leslie's magical tool which is supposed to make them invisible but instead makes them lay sideways. In the end, everyone gets what they want - the old unhealthy menu is back, but with a healthy twist.
In the second segment called "Be True To Your Elf", viewers are introduced to Myron, a new student who claims to be an elf. Myron is different from all the other students in Wayside school, and as expected, he is picked on by the bullies. Myron asks everyone to follow the elf teachings of kindness and to recognize the good in others, but no one listens. When the bullies mess with him one time too many, Myron's elf powers are unlocked, giving him the ability to teleport and to create rainbows and unicorns. He uses his powers to teach the bullies a lesson, and they eventually come around and accept him for who he is.
Both segments of this episode showcase the creativity and humor of the Wayside school series. The children's show is not only entertaining, but it is also educational, teaching the importance of accepting others' differences, standing up for what you believe in, and the different ways you can combat bullying. This is a show that viewers of all ages can enjoy. With each episode, Wayside school pushes the boundaries of what is considered a traditional children's show, while keeping it clean, fun, and entertaining.
