In episode 7 of Watership Down season 1, titled "Challenge To Efrafa," the rabbits of Watership Down embark on a dangerous mission to rescue one of their own from a rival warren. With the help of some unexpected allies, they must overcome numerous obstacles and outsmart their enemies in order to succeed.

As the episode begins, we see that Bigwig has been captured by the rabbits of Efrafa and taken to their heavily fortified warren. Fearing for his friend's safety, Hazel and the rest of the Watership Down rabbits hatch a plan to rescue him. However, they quickly realize that they are vastly outnumbered and outmatched by Efrafa's highly regimented military structure.

Undeterred, Hazel seeks out the help of his old friend Kehaar, a seagull who has been living nearby. Kehaar agrees to assist them, but warns them that they will need to be smart and resourceful in order to succeed. With Kehaar's guidance, the rabbits begin to put their plan into action.

The first step is to distract the guards at Efrafa's entrance, which they do by having Kehaar create a commotion on the opposite side of the warren. With the guards temporarily distracted, the rabbits are able to infiltrate Efrafa's tunnels. However, they soon discover that the warren is far more labyrinthine than they had anticipated, and they quickly become lost.

As they navigate the tunnels, they encounter several other rabbits who have been imprisoned by Efrafa's leader, General Woundwort. These rabbits are understandably skeptical of Hazel and his friends, and some even try to attack them. However, Hazel is able to convince them that they are all on the same side and that they must work together if they hope to escape.

With their numbers bolstered, the rabbits press on towards Bigwig's location. Along the way, they encounter several more obstacles, including a treacherous underground river and a group of Efrafa soldiers who have been dispatched to hunt them down. However, they are able to outsmart their enemies at every turn, with Hazel proving himself to be an especially adept strategist.

Finally, they reach Bigwig's cell, but they soon discover that freeing him will be more difficult than they had anticipated. The cell is guarded by several heavily armed soldiers, and their only hope of getting past them is through an intense physical contest known as "tharn." Hazel volunteers to participate in the contest, knowing that it will be a battle of strength and endurance.

The tharn is a grueling test of willpower and strength, with both combatants struggling mightily to gain the upper hand. However, just when it seems that Hazel is about to be defeated, he summons a burst of strength and overpowers his opponent. With the guards momentarily stunned, the rabbits are able to sneak past them and free Bigwig.

However, their escape is not without its challenges. They are pursued by a large group of Efrafa soldiers, and they must race against the clock to reach the surface before they are caught. With Kehaar's help, they are able to make it out of the warren and into the safety of the open air.

As the episode draws to a close, the rabbits reflect on their successful mission and mourn the loss of some of their fallen comrades. They also realize that they have made a powerful enemy in the form of General Woundwort, and that their actions will likely have consequences in the days to come. Nonetheless, they are proud of what they have accomplished and feel confident that they can overcome whatever challenges lie ahead.
