Ep 11. Still on the List

In Wardens season 7 episode 11, entitled "Still on the List," viewers are once again transported to the world of wildlife conservation and enforcement. Though the show has covered a wide range of topics throughout its run, this particular episode focuses on the ongoing efforts of the Texas Game Wardens to keep tabs on individuals who have been banned from hunting in the state.

As the episode begins, we see wardens out in the field, facing off against poachers and other would-be offenders. But while these encounters make for exciting television, much of the work of the wardens involves tracking down people who have been banned from hunting due to previous violations. These individuals are added to a statewide database and are required to check in with the wardens regularly to ensure that they are not engaging in any illegal activity.

Throughout the course of the episode, we see several examples of wardens who are trying to keep tabs on these banned individuals. In one scene, a warden pulls over a truck and discovers that the driver is someone who is on the banned list. Though the driver protests his innocence, the warden informs him that he will need to provide proof that he is no longer engaging in any illegal hunting activity.

Another scene shows a warden heading out to a remote cabin where a man who is on the banned list is suspected of living. Though the warden is able to find the cabin, he is unable to locate the man, who has apparently fled into the woods. Undeterred, the warden sets up cameras around the perimeter of the property, hoping to catch the man should he return.

Despite the seriousness of the subject matter, the episode does offer some lighthearted moments. At one point, we see a warden who is trying to track down a man who has been banned from hunting due to his involvement in a cockfighting ring. Though the warden is initially unsuccessful in locating the man, he is offered a clue when he stops at a convenience store. The store clerk tells him that the man in question buys a lot of bread and bologna, prompting the warden to quip, "I guess fighting roosters ain't enough to fill you up."

Overall, Wardens season 7 episode 11 is an interesting and informative look at the ongoing efforts to enforce wildlife conservation laws in Texas. Though the show can sometimes feel a bit formulaic, this particular episode does a good job of highlighting the challenges that wardens face in trying to keep tabs on individuals who have already proven themselves to be violators. While it may not be the most action-packed episode of the series, "Still on the List" offers a valuable glimpse into the often-overlooked work of the wardens.
