The Battle Begins continues the story of the VR Troopers, a group of young adults tasked with defending the world against virtual villains. Woody, a former colleague of Ryan's father, reveals that he too has been fighting against Grimlord's virtual army. Woody helps the Troopers see through the Decimator's illusions, allowing them to finally defeat the monster.

After their victory, the Troopers return home to find grim news. Grimlord has hacked into the Troopertron's mainframe and stolen the blueprints for the Trooper suits. Without them, the Troopers will be defenseless against any future attacks. The episode ends with the Troopers realizing that their fight against Grimlord has just begun.
