After the events of the season premiere, the Paladins find themselves in need of repairs and supplies. The team travels to a nearby planet where they hope to find what they need and carry on with their mission to defeat Zarkon. However, upon arrival, the Paladins discover that the planet's inhabitants, a race of underwater creatures called the mermaids, are facing a crisis. The planet's core is destabilizing due to massive drilling operations by a Galra general, creating huge sinkholes that threaten to swallow up the entire planet.
The Paladins team up with the mermaids to try and stop the drilling operations and save the planet. Lance, Hunk, and Pidge work on coming up with a plan to shut down the drills while Keith, Shiro, and Allura help the mermaids evacuate their underwater cities.
