Tori Vega and her friends at Hollywood Arts High School are back in the fourth season of the popular Nickelodeon show, Victorious. In the fourth episode of the season, titled "Opposite Date," the gang explores the age-old idea of what happens when you try to date your polar opposite.
As the episode begins, Tori is lamenting the fact that she can never seem to find a guy who is right for her. Her friend Andre suggests that she try dating someone who is the complete opposite of her, and the gang decides to make a game out of it. Everyone draws a name out of a hat and is tasked with going on a date with the person whose name they draw – but the catch is that they have to find someone who is the total opposite of that person.
Tori draws the name of Beck, her friend and longtime crush, and is determined to make their opposite date work. Beck is a brooding, artistic type who is into grunge music and understated clothing, while Tori is more bubbly and outgoing, with a love for glitter and bright colors. Despite their differences, Tori is confident that she can win Beck over with her charm and personality.
Meanwhile, Jade draws the name of her ex-boyfriend, Beck's best friend, and decides to get revenge on him by setting him up with a loud, obnoxious girl who is the complete opposite of his usually reserved personality. Robbie draws the name of his crush, Cat, and decides to impress her by pretending to be the bad boy that she's always dreamed of being with. And Trina, ever the drama queen, draws the name of her mortal enemy, and decides to use the date as an opportunity to exact revenge on her.
As the gang sets out on their opposite dates, things quickly go awry for everyone involved. Tori ends up embarrassing herself in front of Beck's grunge-loving friends, and Beck is unimpressed with her attempts to be someone she's not. Jade's revenge backfires when her ex-boyfriend actually enjoys his date with the loud, obnoxious girl, and he starts to realize that perhaps he's been too closed off in the past. Robbie's attempts to be a bad boy are undermined by his own awkwardness, and he ends up ruining his chance with Cat. And Trina's plan to get revenge on her enemy only leads to her own humiliation.
By the end of the episode, the gang realizes that maybe being with your opposite isn't always the best idea, and that it's better to be true to yourself and find someone who appreciates you for who you are. The episode ends with Tori and Beck having a heart-to-heart conversation about their relationship, and the rest of the gang reflecting on the lessons they've learned from their opposite dates.
"Opposite Date" is a fun, lighthearted episode of Victorious that explores the timeless theme of opposites attracting. While the gang's attempts at dating their polar opposites may not have been successful, the episode ultimately delivers a positive message about being true to yourself and finding love that complements, rather than opposes, your personality. It's a great episode for fans of the show who enjoy the quirky, offbeat humor and relatable teen drama that Victorious is known for.
