Ep 2. Old Friends

Vets Saving Pets follows the medical professionals at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine as they work tirelessly to save the lives of beloved pets in need. In season 1 episode 2, titled Old Friends, viewers are introduced to a group of patients who have been coming to the clinic for years. Next, we meet Colby, a spunky Terrier who has been a patient at the clinic for over 15 years! She's had various health issues over the years, but today she's here for a dental cleaning and to have some teeth extracted. Dr. Andy, a veterinary dentist, performs the procedure while Colby is under anesthesia. Afterwards, her owner, Kevin, expresses his gratitude to the team and reminisces about all the times they've been there for him and Colby when they needed help the most.

Finally, we meet a cat named Newton who has been coming to the clinic for 9 years. Newton has a condition called feline stomatitis, a painful inflammation of the gums that requires regular treatment. Dr. Reiter, a veterinary dentist, has been treating Newton for years and today she's performing a procedure called an oral abrasion, which removes any inflamed tissue in Newton's mouth. The procedure goes well, but to ensure Newton's continued health, Dr. Reiter recommends extracting all of his teeth. Newton's owner, Abby, is hesitant at first but ultimately agrees to the procedure, knowing it's the best thing for her beloved cat.

Throughout the episode, viewers get a glimpse of the special bond between pets and their owners. From Kathy and Cash's touching reunion after his surgery to Kevin's heartfelt appreciation for the vet team who have been there for him and Colby over the years, it's clear that these animals are more than just pets - they're part of the family.
