Veronica Mars season 2 episode 16, titled "The Rapes of Graff," opens with a shocking discovery. A young girl has been raped at a party, and all clues point towards Cassidy "Beaver" Casablancas being the perpetrator. Veronica is initially skeptical, as Casablancas is a friend of hers and doesn't seem like the type to commit such a heinous act, but evidence keeps mounting against him.
Meanwhile, Keith Mars is dealing with his own troubles. He's been suspended from the Sheriff's department, leaving him with ample free time to investigate cases on his own. He quickly becomes involved in a case involving wealthy businessman Jake Kane. Kane's son, who was thought to have committed suicide years prior, appears to be alive and living under an assumed identity. Keith digs deeper, seeking answers from Kane himself and even confronting Kane's wife, but every answer leads to even more questions.
Back in school, Veronica is determined to prove Beaver's innocence. She enlists the help of Mac and Wallace to help track down witnesses and gather evidence. As they dig deeper, however, they begin to uncover unsettling truths about the party where the rape occurred. Multiple girls were drugged and assaulted at the same party, leading Veronica to suspect that there's more to the story than just an isolated incident.
As if that weren't enough, Veronica also finds herself dealing with relationship drama. Logan is back in town, and while Veronica is initially resistant to giving him another chance, she can't help but be drawn towards him. When she discovers that Logan has been lying about his whereabouts, however, she's left feeling hurt and betrayed.
All of these disparate storylines eventually come together in a thrilling conclusion. Without giving anything away, suffice to say that the truth about the rapes finally comes to light, Keith's investigation takes some unexpected turns, and Veronica must decide where her loyalties lie when it comes to the men in her life.
Overall, "The Rapes of Graff" is a tense, gripping episode of Veronica Mars that tackles some serious issues while still delivering plenty of the show's trademark wit and humor. Fans of the show will enjoy seeing the various characters' storylines begin to intertwine, while first-time viewers will be drawn in by the strong performances and fast-paced storytelling.
