In the fifth episode of season one of The Vanilla Ice Project, titled "The Ugly Upstairs," rapper-turned-renovator Vanilla Ice takes on a big challenge by tackling the upstairs space in a Florida home he's been renovating. In the beginning of the episode, we see Vanilla Ice become frustrated with the upstairs living area as it is plain and doesn’t match with the overall design of the home.
The challenge with the upstairs space is that it's located in a roofline of an attic which has a very unique structure that Vanilla Ice has to work around to bring his vision to life. He has a lot of work to do as he wants to make sure everything is perfect before moving forward with the project.
As the episode progresses, we see Vanilla Ice getting rid of all the shabby and outdated parts of the upstairs space before beginning the renovation process. Underneath old carpet, Vanilla Ice finds unique hardwood floors which he decides to restore rather than replace. Vanilla Ice, with the help of his crew, begins to replace the old wallpaper and paint the acrylic bathroom that had acrylic walls. He adds new lighting fixtures and changes the bathroom floors, transforming the entire space.
One of the biggest challenges in "The Ugly Upstairs" is turning the awkwardly shaped space into an inviting and functional living area. Vanilla tackles this issue with the help of an interior designer and builder; he opts for a cohesive look instead of continuing with the old colors of the space, making it look bigger and brighter. He decides to add a wet bar to create a social space where guests can relax and entertain.
Vanilla Ice and designer Krista Watterworth take full advantage of the unique attic space and create a multi-functional living room with a designated study area. The design of the upstairs is harmonious with the rest of the house and this creates a cohesive flow throughout the entire building.
The episode ends with Vanilla Ice and his team putting the finishing touches on the transformation. Amongst the finishing touches is a "secret door" that Krista suggests which connects to an alternate entrance within the house and joins the upstairs living area to the rest of the main living area. With everything set up, Vanilla Ice finally unveils the "Ugly Upstairs" transformation to the homeowners, who love the final product.
Overall, this episode of The Vanilla Ice Project showcases Vanilla Ice's skill in transforming any space into a cohesive part of a living area. Despite the challenges of the unique attic space, Vanilla Ice and his team managed to create a bright and functional living space that the homeowners can now enjoy. If you're a fan of renovation shows or looking for inspiration for your own home renovation, "The Ugly Upstairs" is a must-watch episode of The Vanilla Ice Project.
