  • March 6, 1985

In Urusei Yatsura season 7 episode 1, titled "The Scampering Kotatsu Cat! Anything to Get Warm," winter has arrived and the residents of Tomobiki Town are feeling the cold. Ataru Moroboshi, the protagonist of the show, is particularly struggling to keep himself warm.

Ataru's mother comes up with the idea of using a kotatsu, a heated table common in Japanese households, to keep warm. However, Ataru quickly discovers that there's a problem with their kotatsu - it's broken. Desperate to keep warm, Ataru decides to try his luck with a street vendor selling kotatsu cats.

Kotatsu cats are small, cute creatures that can generate heat and keep people warm. Ataru eagerly purchases one, but quickly realizes that the cat is much more trouble than he bargained for. The cat is mischievous and uncontrollable, causing chaos wherever it goes.

As Ataru struggles to keep the kotatsu cat under control, he also has to deal with the rest of the show's zany cast of characters. Lum, the alien princess who is in love with Ataru, tries to help out by flying everyone to a tropical island. However, she quickly learns that even on a tropical island, winter weather can be unforgiving.

Meanwhile, another character, Cherry, tries to warm himself up by telling a ghost story. In typical Urusei Yatsura fashion, the ghost story is absurd and comical, featuring a ghost who wears a parka and a scarf.

Despite the chaos and hilarity of the episode, there's a heartwarming message beneath it all. As the characters struggle to keep warm, they realize that they need each other to get through the winter. Ataru, despite his rough exterior, cares about his friends and family and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep them warm.

Overall, "The Scampering Kotatsu Cat! Anything to Get Warm" is a funny and heartwarming episode that showcases the unique blend of comedy, romance, and sci-fi that makes Urusei Yatsura such a beloved anime.
