Urusei Yatsura, a classic anime series, follows the wacky adventures of high school student Ataru Moroboshi and his alien fiancée Lum. In season 5 episode 6, titled "Sakura, Sad Years of Youth," the focus shifts to Ataru's childhood friend, Sakura.

Sakura, who has feelings for Ataru, reminisces about their time together when they were kids. She recalls how she used to bully and tease him, but also how they shared happy moments. One day, Ataru disappeared without a word, leaving Sakura feeling hurt and confused. She wonders if he ever thought about her or missed her during his absence.

Cut to the present day, Sakura is now a successful actress and is filming a drama series with a scene where she must confess her love to her co-star. However, she struggles to express her emotions convincingly, still haunted by her unrequited feelings for Ataru. To add to her woes, she discovers that Ataru has suddenly reappeared in town and wants to meet her.

At their reunion, Sakura feels nervous and fidgety, but also happy to see Ataru again. However, she soon realizes that his visit has nothing to do with her. Ataru is seeking her help to find Lum, who has disappeared. As usual, Ataru remains oblivious to Sakura's feelings for him, leaving her feeling dejected once again.

To distract herself, Sakura decides to focus on her work and put on a brave face for her drama series. But things take a turn when she discovers that her co-star is actually in love with her. She is taken aback but also touched by his feelings and starts to open up to him.

As Sakura completes filming for the series, she receives a bouquet of roses from her co-star with a note that reads, "I understand if you still have feelings for someone else, but please consider me." Sakura looks up at the sky, remembering the past and reflecting on her future. She may still have feelings for Ataru, but she realizes that life goes on, and who knows what the future holds.

"Sakura, Sad Years of Youth" is a poignant episode that explores the theme of unrequited love and the importance of moving on. It sheds light on the character of Sakura, who has always been in the background, and adds depth to her story. The episode is a reminder that everyone has their own struggles and that we should be kind to ourselves while chasing our dreams.
