- November 17, 1982
Urusei Yatsura season 3 episode 1 "Terrible Toothache Wars!" begins with Ataru Moroboshi, the protagonist, waking up with a terrible toothache. He tries to ignore it until he realizes that he can't eat his beloved food. Ataru's friends try to cheer him up, but nothing seems to work. His girlfriend, Lum, recommends that he sees a dentist.
As Ataru visits the dentist, he meets the dentist's assistant, Keiko. Keiko has a crush on Ataru and does everything to help him with his toothache. The dentist, however, has an unusual approach to toothaches. He befriends Ataru, and a series of events ensue, leading to a hilarious adventure.
In the meantime, Lum is worried about Ataru's toothache and decides to search for a remedy. Traditional Japanese remedies don't work, so Lum decides to try a Western approach to cure the toothache. She goes to a pharmacy and picks up a bottle of painkillers. The problem is that Lum can't understand the instructions, so she asks Kosuke for help. Kosuke is a computer genius who happens to know everything about western medicine. He reads the instructions to Lum and tells her how to use the medication.
Meanwhile, the dentist is convinced that he can help Ataru without any medication or procedures. Instead, he creates an ancient Japanese tea ceremony that will cure Ataru's toothache. The ceremony requires Ataru to drink tea made from rare and unusual ingredients. Lum and her friends are skeptical about the ceremony and believe that it's just another one of the dentist's strange ideas.
In the end, Ataru drinks the tea, and his toothache disappears. He thanks the dentist and his assistant, Keiko, for their help. Lum is thrilled that Ataru is feeling better and is happy to have him back to his normal self.
"Terrible Toothache Wars!" is a comical episode that showcases the eccentricities and humor of the characters in Urusei Yatsura.
