Ep 11. Pagi Raya
- October 5, 2008
Upin & Ipin season 2 episode 11, titled "Pagi Raya," takes place on the day of the Eid al-Fitr celebration in Malaysia. The episode starts with Upin and Ipin waking up early to get dressed and ready to go to the mosque with their grandfather, Tok Dalang. They are excited to pray and celebrate the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
As the family gets ready, Upin and Ipin reminisce about their past Eid celebrations and the delicious food they ate. They are especially looking forward to having lemang, a traditional dish made of glutinous rice cooked in bamboo sticks. The siblings head to the mosque with their grandfather, where they meet their friends and other community members for prayer.
After the prayer, everyone exchanges greetings and wishes for the holiday. As they make their way back to the house, they see people selling traditional food and toys at the market. Upin and Ipin are thrilled to receive some duit raya, which is a tradition in which adults give children money as a token of love.
Back at the house, the family prepares a delicious feast for the holiday. Upin and Ipin help their mother and grandfather in the kitchen, and they are excited to taste all the food they helped to prepare. The siblings also watch their grandfather perform wayang kulit, a traditional Malaysian shadow puppetry show.
The rest of the episode features the family spending time together and enjoying the festivities. They visit friends and relatives, give and receive duit raya, and eat lots of delicious food. Upin and Ipin also sneak away to play with their friends and enjoy the local carnival rides.
The episode ends with the family gathering to watch a fireworks display and saying goodbye to another wonderful Eid celebration. Upin and Ipin are thankful for the special memories they created with their loved ones, and they look forward to celebrating again next year.
