In Unsellable Houses season 2 episode 7, titled "Outdated to Upgraded," twins and real estate experts, Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis who have successfully transformed outdated and unsellable houses into stunning homes for their clients, are back to their magic. This time, the episode follows their journey as they help a family in Bothell, Washington, to upgrade their outdated and unappealing house into an irresistible mansion that will attract potential buyers to the property once they decide to sell it.
The show commences with a tour of the dysfunctional family home, which Lyndsay and Leslie never shy away from commenting on what's working and not working in the home. The design is bland and looks dated; the interior feels cramped and congested thanks to the sturdy chairs and outdated design. However, the potential for the home to be transformed is undeniable with a little bit of investment and inspiration.
After discussing their plans with the homeowners, the twins set their plans rolling by tackling the kitchen first. The kitchen which was the busiest area of the home was in desperate need of an update. The cabinetry was yawn-worthy, the appliances non-working, and the countertop desperately needed an upgrade. The twins have to get creative to maximize the small space by repaint cabinetry with bright colors and also add glass upper cabinets to achieve an open feel.
Next, they move to the main sitting area, which needed a complete overhaul, including swapping the uninviting couch for a more comfortable leather sofa, painting the room with light colors to make it appear brighter, and adding small touches of decor like a rug and potted plants to give the room a refreshing look.
But the main challenge of the episode comes when the twins have to convert an abandoned and hazardous attic space into a safe and stylish family room. The attic space had a low ceiling, was dimly lit, and had a fairly steep incline. To make it safe, they install wrought iron railing and add recessed lighting to give it the perfect ambiance. After installing craft bookshelves, wall lighting and painting the walls with a powdery color, the space undergoes a complete transformation - the twins may have just turned the attic into the best room in the house!
Lyndsay and Leslie also tackled the home by replacing the outdated chandeliers with new light fixtures and repainting the exterior of the house, bringing curb appeal and style to the home.
Throughout the show, the homeowners were constantly kept in the loop and updated on all the changes made. They were amazed by the transformation of their home and couldn't believe the difference that upgrades and a bit of design sense could make to create a cheerful and stylish environment.
As with every episode of Unsellable Houses, "Outdated to Upgraded" is an inspiring account of the transformation that can be achieved when real estate enthusiasts, like Lyndsay and Leslie, put their skills and know-how in real estate to work by transforming unsellable houses into homes anyone would love.
