Unlimited Psychic Squad (Zettai Karen Children: The Unlimited - Hyoubu Kyousuke) is a Japanese anime series produced by Manglobe and directed by ShishÅ Igarashi. It was released in 2013 and is a spin-off of the manga and anime series, Zettai Karen Children. The show has been licensed for streaming and home video release by Sentai Filmworks. The show contains 12 episodes and was produced in Japan.
The story follows Hyoubu Kyousuke, a powerful psychic who is the leader of the criminal organization P.A.N.D.R.A. He is the most powerful psychic in the world and possesses a unique ability that allows him to use his psychic powers to their fullest potential. When he finds out that a group of espers is being used as weapons by a government organization called B.A.B.E.L., he decides to recruit them into his organization and protect them from harm.
The main trio of espers that Hyoubu recruits are Kaoru, Aoi, and Shiho. Kaoru is a telepath who has the ability to read minds and communicate with others. Aoi is a psychokinetic who can move objects with her mind, and Shiho is a pyrokinetic who can control fire. Together, they become part of P.A.N.D.R.A. and help Hyoubu carry out his plans.
While the premise sounds rather simple, the show is more complex than it seems. The story is a combination of action, superhero-style hijinks, and political intrigue. The show takes place in a world where psychics are treated as second-class citizens and are often exploited for their abilities. The main characters have to navigate through a society that fears and mistrusts them while avoiding being captured by B.A.B.E.L.
The show often asks tough questions about the nature of power and control. Hyoubu is a charismatic leader who is willing to do whatever it takes to protect his people. He comes across as a villain to those who oppose him, but to his followers, he is a hero. The show explores what happens when individuals with power are forced to make difficult decisions, and how those decisions can have far-reaching consequences.
The animation in Unlimited Psychic Squad is top-notch. The characters are well-designed, and the fight scenes are dynamic and exciting. The show features a lot of psychic powers, and each character's power is visually distinct from the others. The animators do not shy away from showing the full extent of the characters' abilities, which makes for some awe-inspiring moments.
The voice acting in the show is also strong. Junichi Suwabe brings a lot of charisma and gravitas to his performance as Hyoubu, while Kana Hanazawa does an excellent job portraying the conflicted Kaoru. The rest of the cast is also noteworthy, particularly Yoshimasa Hosoya as Andy Hinomiya, one of Hyoubu's lieutenants.
The show does have a few flaws, however. The pacing can be slow at times, particularly in the middle of the series. There are some moments of heavy exposition that can bog down the story. Additionally, some of the secondary characters feel underdeveloped, which can make their actions feel sudden and out of character.
Overall, Unlimited Psychic Squad is an entertaining and thought-provoking anime series. It manages to strike a balance between action and drama while exploring complex themes. Fans of superhero stories or shows about individuals with unique powers will find a lot to like here. The show's strong production values, engaging characters, and intriguing story make it a must-watch for anyone interested in the genre.
