Alma continues to come to terms with her newfound ability to manipulate time in episode 3 of Undone. This time, she experiments with her power by repeatedly playing a game of handheld blackjack while rewinding time to see if she can memorize the cards and always win. During her practice, Alma's dad and Sam drop by to pick up some things for her mom's fundraiser. Alma tries to avoid them since she feels guilty about ditching her responsibilities.
Eventually, Alma's dad convinces her to come help with the fundraiser, where she bumps into her ex-boyfriend Reed. Alma is hesitant to talk to him at first, but eventually, they catch up and Reed tells her about his recent engagement and how his fiancée is pregnant. Alma feels a mix of emotions, especially since she is still struggling with the feeling that her life has no purpose.
As the night wears on, Alma's mom curiously comments to her that she's been acting different lately. Alma tries to play it off, but her mom is insistent. She tells Alma that when she was young, she experienced a traumatic event that caused her to lose touch with reality for a while and that Alma reminds her of herself back then. Alma is taken aback by this revelation but ultimately brushes it off.
Meanwhile, Alma's relationship with her sister Becca continues to be strained. Becca expresses concern about Alma's recent behavior, but Alma is more interested in getting her to help with her time-manipulating experiments. Becca insists that she needs to focus on her job and her fiancé, but Alma isn't satisfied with that answer. The tension between the two sisters comes to a head when Alma discovers that Becca has gotten rid of their dad's belongings without consulting anyone. Alma is furious and confronts her sister, causing a major fight.
Throughout the episode, flashbacks to Alma's grandmother Camila continue to play a significant role. Alma goes to visit Camila's home and ends up finding a set of old audio tapes. When she listens to them, she is transported back in time to a conversation between Camila and her father. Alma learns that her father had a falling out with Camila and that her grandmother disapproved of his relationship with Alma's mother. Alma is shocked by this revelation and begins to realize that her family history is more complicated than she ever imagined.
Undone season 1 episode 3, "Handheld Blackjack," continues to explore Alma's newfound power and her struggles with relationships and identity. As Alma begins to delve deeper into her family's past, she realizes that she may need to confront some uncomfortable truths in order to move forward. Meanwhile, her attempts to manipulate time become more sophisticated and she starts to truly feel the consequences of her actions. With an engaging plot and complex characters, this episode is a must-watch for fans of the series.
