Ultimate Girls is an action-comedy anime television series that premiered in Japan in 2005. The show follows the lives of three ordinary high school girls who gain extraordinary powers and become the superhero team, the Ultimate Girls. The main protagonists of the show are the lead character Aiko, her best friend Sayaka and an idol named Kasumi.
The series has a unique storyline which revolves around a mysterious alien spacecraft that crashes into Japan. The alien’s onboard supercomputer, the Vagrant, needs to find suitable candidates to wear its battle suits, which are capable of combining and transforming into a giant robot. It identifies the three high school girls as the optimal candidates.
As the girls try to come to terms with their newfound powers and abilities, they find themselves caught up in a battle between superhero and supervillain factions. The show is filled with action-packed battles, comedic situations, and an abundance of fan service.
Akiko Kimura voices Aiko, the series' main protagonist. She is a typical teenage girl who loves food, and whose biggest worries are homework and boys. Aiko is initially reluctant to be part of the Ultimate Girls team, but her desire to help others eventually propels her into becoming a full-fledged superheroine.
Takashi Matsuyama voices Sayaka, Aiko's best friend who is also thrust into the world of superheroes. Sayaka is more reserved and shy than Aiko, but she is fiercely loyal and protective of her friends. When she becomes one of the Ultimate Girls, she discovers a side of herself that she never knew existed.
Misato Fukuen voices Kasumi, an idol who joins the team to help them fight against the villains. Kasumi is the most experienced and savvy of the three girls, and she is comfortable in the spotlight. However, her newfound superpowers and responsibilities ultimately challenge her confidence.
Toru Furuya voices the Vagrant, the alien supercomputer that enlists the help of the girls. The Vagrant is a quirky character with a dry sense of humor, and its interactions with the girls provide some of the show's most entertaining moments.
The show's animation is vibrant and colourful, with character designs by Masashi Ishihama. The music is composed by Kouhei Tanaka, whose previous works include the soundtrack for the anime series One Piece.
Ultimate Girls received mixed reviews upon its release, with some critics praising its humor and entertaining action sequences, while others criticized it for its excessive fan service and shallow storytelling. However, the show has since gained a cult following and remains popular among fans of the magical girl and superhero genres.
In conclusion, Ultimate Girls is an entertaining and lighthearted anime series with plenty of laughs and action. While it may not appeal to everyone, it is a great option for those looking for a fun and easy-to-watch series.
