In season 1 episode 5 of Ugly Betty titled "The Lyin', the Watch and the Wardrobe," Betty Suarez is put in a tough position when she loses a very expensive watch entrusted to her by her boss, Daniel Meade. Betty's wacky sister, Hilda, quickly jumps in to help her find a replacement, but the initial attempt goes awry. As a result, Betty resorts to exchanging her own watch for a knockoff in order to save her job.
Meanwhile, the editors at Mode magazine are all vying for the coveted spot of featuring a photo spread with German supermodel, Heidi Klum. Creative Director, Wilhelmina Slater, is desperate to win this opportunity and puts all her efforts into wooing Heidi for the magazine. However, things seem to go south when Wilhelmina's scheming assistant, Marc, switches some wardrobe items around in an effort to sabotage her.
As usual, Betty is stuck in the middle of all the drama. She has to figure out how to make things right with Daniel, who is clearly disappointed in her for losing the watch. But even more important is how she'll keep her secret from him and the rest of the staff at Mode. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina is on a warpath to get to the bottom of the wardrobe mix-up and seeks Betty's help to uncover Marc's dirty tricks.
The episode also gives us a glimpse into Betty's love life as she struggles to balance her work and personal life. She has been caught in a love triangle with her longtime crush, Henry, and his girlfriend, Charlie, leaving her feeling confused and heartbroken. She eventually seeks advice from her wise friend, Christina, who helps her see things more clearly.
Overall, "The Lyin', the Watch and the Wardrobe" is yet another fun and entertaining episode of Ugly Betty, filled with fashion, drama, and plenty of laughs. It showcases Betty's tenacity and loyalty to her job, while also highlighting the importance of honesty and communication in both personal and professional relationships.
