Ep 16. Derailed

Betty Suarez is a young woman who dreams of working in the fashion industry. She lands a job as an assistant to Daniel Meade, the editor-in-chief of Mode, a high-end fashion magazine. Despite being Type-A personality and prone to inexplicable rants, Daniel is a congenial boss to Betty. He is impressed by her dedication, hard work, and intelligence. But Betty's arrival causes tension in the office because it's immediately apparent that she doesn't fit in with the other staff members who are all thin, beautiful, and fashionable. Her signature ponytail, braces, and glasses make her look like a geek, which doesn't impress her colleagues. But, Betty is determined to make it in the fashion world and to prove everyone wrong.

In season 1, episode 16 titled "Derailed," Betty is excited to attend a Mode-sponsored charity event with Daniel. It's a fancy affair that is attended by celebrities, fashion designers, and wealthy patrons. Betty is looking forward to the event, but things take a turn for the worse when the train they are traveling on derails. Betty, Daniel, and other passengers are stranded in the middle of nowhere. As if that weren't bad enough, they are also wearing evening wear, which makes it difficult to find shelter.

The episode opens with Betty dressed to the nines, riding on a train with Daniel. Betty is giddy with excitement, expecting to hobnob with the upper echelon of the fashion world. But things quickly take a turn for the worse when the train derails, leaving them stranded. Betty is rattled but quickly gets to work, trying to figure out what they can do to get help. Daniel, on the other hand, is panicking. He's worried about the magazine, the fashion industry, and his own reputation. It's up to Betty to keep a level head and come up with a plan.

As the night wears on, Betty and Daniel come across other passengers, all dressed up, who are also stranded. They band together and try to figure out what they can do to survive. Betty uses her smarts to build a fire and find shelter, while Daniel grumbles and complains. As the night wears on, they begin to get to know each other better. They share stories and jokes, and Daniel sees a whole new side of Betty. He begins to appreciate her intelligence, wit, and resourcefulness. By the time they are rescued, Daniel has a newfound respect for Betty and realizes that she's more than just a pretty face.

The episode ends with Betty and Daniel arriving back in New York City, exhausted, but happy to be alive. Betty has saved the day, and Daniel has come to appreciate her more than ever before. They both realize that they have a lot to learn from each other and that they make a great team.
