The main event of the night was a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira. Jones was coming off of his sixth successful title defense against Alexander Gustafsson five months earlier. Many fans were looking forward to the expected bout between Jones and Gustafsson, but the UFC opted to give Teixeira the opportunity to challenge for the title.
Jones proved to be too much for Teixeira, utilizing his reach advantage to keep the distance and land powerful strikes. Teixeira had some chances to showcase his striking ability, but his attacks were often countered by Jones's superior counterstriking ability. Jones also controlled the fight in the clinch and on the ground, landing heavy elbows and knees that devastated Teixeira.
Despite Teixeira's determination and heart, Jones was too much to handle and won the fight with ease, retaining his title with a unanimous decision victory. It was another dominant performance by the young champion, who solidified himself as one of the greatest fighters of his era.
