In the pilot episode of Tyler Perry's Ruthless, we meet Ruth Truesdale (Melissa L. Williams), a young woman living in a religious cult known as The Rakudushis. Ruth is the wife of cult leader, The Highest (Matt Cedeño), and a mother to a young daughter named Lynn (Yvonne Senat Jones).
As we are introduced to the world of The Rakudushis, it quickly becomes clear that the members of this cult are willing to do whatever it takes to maintain their way of life and their hold on their followers. We see examples of this from the very beginning of the episode, as a young woman is punished for speaking out of turn during a religious service.
Ruth, like all of the women in The Rakudushis, is required to cover her body head-to-toe at all times. However, we soon learn that her husband The Highest is allowed to have multiple wives and openly engages in sexual relationships with them. This blatant hypocrisy and control over the women in the cult sets the stage for the main conflict that will drive the series forward.
Despite her forced marriage and strict religious upbringing, Ruth begins to question her place in The Rakudushis. She secretly conspires with Gabriel (Anthony Bless), a man who has recently left the cult, to escape with her daughter and start a new life outside of The Rakudushis.
However, escaping from The Rakudushis is not as easy as it sounds. This becomes clear when we are introduced to the enforcers of The Rakudushis, a group of men who have been trained in combat and are not afraid to use violence to keep the members of the cult in line.
As the episode progresses, tensions rise and the stakes become higher for Ruth and Gabriel. They must navigate the dangerous world of The Rakudushis while also trying to protect themselves and Ruth's daughter. The pilot ends on a cliffhanger that leaves us excited to see what will come next for Ruth and Gabriel.
Overall, the pilot episode of Tyler Perry's Ruthless is a thrilling and intense introduction to the world of The Rakudushis. It sets up the main conflict and characters in a way that leaves us wanting more. The cast delivers powerful performances, particularly Melissa L. Williams as Ruth, who perfectly captures the complex emotions and struggles of a woman who has been trapped in a cult for most of her life. Fans of Tyler Perry's other shows and movies will not be disappointed by this new addition to his repertoire.
