The Buck Stops Here is the 12th episode of Tyler Perry's House of Payne season 1. In this episode, Curtis (played by LaVan Davis) finds himself in a lot of trouble when he tries to play the stock market without doing his research. He invests all of his savings in a company that he thinks is going to do well, ignoring the warnings of his wife, Ella (played by Cassi Davis), and his brother-in-law, C.J. (played by Allen Payne). However, the company ends up going bankrupt, and Curtis loses all of his money.
Meanwhile, Claretha (played by Denise Burse) is looking for a job, but finds that her age is a major obstacle. She becomes discouraged after going to interviews and being asked about her age, and starts to think that she will never be able to find work again. However, her daughter, Janine (played by Demetria McKinney), encourages her to keep trying.
At the same time, C.J. is struggling to keep his new job after being promoted to a management position. He is having trouble being assertive with his employees, and they are taking advantage of him. When his boss notices that things are not going well, he gives C.J. an ultimatum: either he shapes up or he will be fired.
As the three storylines unfold, we see the characters dealing with the consequences of their actions and struggling to make things right. Curtis must find a way to make up for his financial loss and earn back the trust of his family, while Claretha learns to believe in herself again and keep searching for employment. C.J. works to improve his management skills and gain confidence in his role as a leader.
