Ep 7. Essence
- February 2, 2021
In "Essence," the seventh episode of season two of Two Sentence Horror Stories, we are introduced to a woman named Kiona who seeks to connect with her African roots by using an app that claims to provide a genetic analysis. However, when Kiona learns that her ancestors had practiced a form of voodoo, she becomes increasingly unsettled and fears that something sinister is taking over her body and mind.
When the episode begins, we see Kiona living alone in a sparse apartment and struggling to connect with her heritage. She frequently receives calls from her mother, who encourages her to embrace her roots, but Kiona is resistant and feels disconnected from her family's traditions. One day, she discovers an ad for an app called Ancestry Quest, which claims to be able to trace her lineage and provide a detailed genetic analysis.
Despite her initial skepticism, Kiona decides to download the app and send in a DNA sample. Within a few days, she receives a report that tells her about her African heritage and specifically mentions a form of voodoo that her ancestors had practiced. Although initially intrigued, Kiona soon becomes increasingly disturbed by the idea that something sinister might be lurking within her bloodline.
As Kiona becomes more obsessed with the idea that her ancestors' voodoo practices somehow live on within her, she begins to experience increasingly terrifying hallucinations. She sees visions of animals and spirits, and hears voices calling to her from beyond the veil. Soon Kiona is convinced that a malevolent force is possessing her body and working to take control of her mind.
In an attempt to combat the dark energy that she believes is consuming her, Kiona seeks out a practitioner of voodoo and asks for their help. However, the man she meets with tells her that the spirits are real and that they cannot be denied or dismissed. He tells her that the only way to protect herself is to embrace her heritage and accept the powers that come with it.
Despite her fear and uncertainty, Kiona decides to take the man's advice and begins to explore voodoo practices more deeply. She visits a local market to purchase materials and starts to perform rituals in her apartment. Over time, Kiona begins to feel more in touch with her ancestry and more powerful in her own right.
As Kiona becomes more attuned to the spirits and more comfortable with her role as a voodoo practitioner, she begins to see that the dark forces she once feared are now working to help her. She uses her newfound powers to cast spells and protect herself, and even begins to receive messages from her ancestors in the form of dreams and visions.
Towards the end of the episode, Kiona comes to realize that her heritage is not something to be feared or avoided, but rather something to be embraced and celebrated. She uses her abilities to help others and becomes a respected member of the voodoo community. Although her journey was difficult, Kiona ultimately found a way to connect with her roots and harness the power of her ancestors to make the world a better and safer place.
