Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen), a successful jingle-writer and bachelor, is living in Malibu with his brother Alan (Jon Cryer) and Alan's son Jake (Angus T. Jones), a precocious teenage boy who often gets caught up in the comedy and chaos of his family.
In the season 3 episode 7 of Two and a Half Men, titled "Sleep Tight, Puddin' Pop," Charlie finds himself struggling to sleep due to a persistent ringing noise that won't stop. He discovers that the culprit is a cricket in his house, and tries to get rid of it himself – but to no avail.
Determined to get some much-needed rest, Charlie turns to his family and friends for help. Alan suggests using a cricket trap, but when that fails, Charlie sets up a webcam to catch the pesky insect in action. In the meantime, Jake decides to take matters into his own hands and tries to catch the cricket himself.
As the night wears on, Charlie and his housemates find themselves in a series of comedic mishaps and misunderstandings. Charlie's ex-girlfriend, Kandi (April Bowlby), shows up unexpectedly and offers to help him get rid of the cricket – but her presence only adds to the chaos in the house.
Meanwhile, Alan deals with his own sleep issues as he struggles to get comfortable in a strange new bed – a gift from his girlfriend, Kandi. Jake, on the other hand, has trouble sleeping due to his fears about the cricket and decides to camp out with a protective helmet and a BB gun.
As the night progresses, the characters continue to clash and collide in various hilarious scenarios. In the end, however, they all come together to help Charlie get some much-needed rest – and to finally get rid of the cricket that's been keeping him up all night.
