The Return, Part 12 of Twin Peaks: The Return begins with a close-up shot of a glass box in New York City as the security guard, Sam, sits in front of it. Suddenly, a mysterious figure appears inside the box and brutally murders Sam.

Meanwhile, back in Twin Peaks, Sheriff Truman and his brother, Harry, discuss the strange occurrences taking place in their town. The pair later meet with Agent Cooper, who has just exited the infamous Red Room.
