The Return, Part 12 of Twin Peaks: The Return begins with a close-up shot of a glass box in New York City as the security guard, Sam, sits in front of it. Suddenly, a mysterious figure appears inside the box and brutally murders Sam.
Meanwhile, back in Twin Peaks, Sheriff Truman and his brother, Harry, discuss the strange occurrences taking place in their town. The pair later meet with Agent Cooper, who has just exited the infamous Red Room. Cooper seems disoriented and confused, and it becomes apparent to the Truman brothers that he is not the same person he used to be.
Another character, Dougie Jones, has been introduced in previous episodes, and in this episode, he finally begins to regain some of his memories. His wife, Janey-E, is ecstatic as she watches her husband transform before her eyes. However, their happiness is short-lived as the dangerous people that Dougie owes money to start causing trouble.
Meanwhile, back at the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Department, Lucy and Andy are still discussing their plans for their unborn child, which provides a much-needed moment of levity in this dark and suspenseful show.
