Ep 1. Birthday Forever
- July 29, 2019
Twelve Forever follows the adventures of a twelve-year-old girl named Reggie who refuses to grow up. She lives in a world of her imagination with her two best friends; Todd, a toy who has come to life and carries a British accent and Esther, a monster with a love for fashion. In this animated series, Reggie juggles puberty, identity, and her refusal to leave childhood behind.
In the first episode, titled "Birthday Forever," Reggie is celebrating her twelfth birthday, but not in the conventional sense. She plans on staying twelve forever in her imaginary world, never growing up. But her mundane birthday plans are quickly interrupted when she receives an invitation to a party hosted by her former best friend, Connelly.
Reggie accepts the invitation with her friends in tow, going against her initial plans to avoid growing up. The invitation presents an opportunity to mend her friendship with Connelly. But when she arrives at the party, it's far from what she expected, a snobbish and pretentious gathering where Reggie feels out of place.
Without any idea of how to fit in, Reggie befriends a group of talking cupcakes, who encourage her to express herself. However, when the cupcakes turn out to be under a spell fuelled by Connelly's envious nature, they turn against Reggie and her friends.
Reggie realizes that trying to please others and fit in isn't worth abandoning who she is and her identity. She accepts herself, and her individuality kills the spell Connelly had planned by singing her heart out and performing her imaginary combat moves. Snapping out of the spell, Connelly realizes how horrible she has been to Reggie and offers a genuine apology.
In the end, Reggie accepts the apology, but she refuses to join Connelly's group of snobbish and self-centered friends. She helps a kind girl named Mackenzie, whom Connelly was bullying from the party inadvertently, while also reaffirming her friendship with Todd and Esther.
The episode ends with Reggie unapologetically carrying her personality as a badge of honor and celebrating her birthday with friends. She learns that growing up is essential, and it's okay to remain true to oneself during that process.
