Ep 1. Forever and a Dog
- July 21, 2021
Turner & Hooch is a brand new TV series reboot of the Tom Hanks movie of the same name from 1989. It follows the story of US Marshal Scott Turner Jr. (played by Josh Peck) and his new partner, a lovable and oversized Dogue de Bordeaux named Hooch. In the first episode, Forever and a Dog, we are introduced to Turner and his world as well as the antics of his new partner.
The episode begins with Turner living in his father's house, a legacy passed down from his father who also served as a US Marshal. Turner is hopelessly determined to live up to his father's legacy, but he seems to have a problem connecting with people. To make matters worse, Turner's boss constantly berates him for his inability to work well with others.
Enter Hooch, an oversized yet lovable dog that Turner has been tasked to care for as part of a case gone wrong. At first, Turner is hesitant to take in the dog and even considers returning him to the animal shelter. But as Hooch slowly but surely breaks down Turner's walls, the two begin to form a deep bond.
The majority of the episode revolves around Turner and Hooch as they get into a series of misadventures while trying to solve the case Turner was working on. Hooch destroys Turner's car, breaks into an animal shelter and eats all the food, and even causes a power outage while trying to chase down a suspect. But despite all of this, Turner begins to see the benefits of having Hooch around. Hooch's heightened sense of smell helps Turner solve the case quicker and more efficiently than he would have been able to alone.
As the episode progresses, Turner's affection for Hooch grows and he starts to acknowledge Hooch's value as a partner. The pair even go on a stakeout together where Hooch perfectly plays his role in the mission. In the end, Turner and Hooch solve the case and save the day, cementing their partnership for good.
The episode concludes with Turner finally feeling like he's made a meaningful connection with someone since his father's death. And Hooch, of course, is right by his side, ready for whatever comes next.
Forever and a Dog is a heartwarming and lighthearted episode that perfectly sets the stage for the rest of the series. It's a perfect balance of comedy and drama, with plenty of feel-good moments for animal lovers. The chemistry between Peck and the lovable Dogue de Bordeaux is undeniable, and it's clear that this partnership is going to be one to watch. Overall, Turner & Hooch is a promising new addition to the TV landscape that is sure to have audiences tuning in week after week.
