Ep 3. I'm in a Long Distance Relationship
- September 29, 2007
In this episode of True Life, we meet three young couples who are navigating the challenges of being in a long-distance relationship. Long-distance relationships are becoming more common in today's world as people move away for work or school or meet online from different parts of the world. But being apart from the person you love can be difficult, and these couples are struggling to make it work.
First, we meet Sarah and Tim who have been together for two years, but Tim lives in Australia while Sarah lives in the United States. They met when Tim was studying abroad, and they fell in love quickly. Since then, they have been flying back and forth to see each other as often as possible, but it's challenging with the time difference and the cost of travel. Sarah is starting to feel like the distance is too much to handle and is considering breaking up with Tim.
Next, we meet Jane and Mike who have been together for three years but have never lived in the same city. Jane lives in New York City, and Mike lives in Los Angeles. They met online and hit it off immediately but have never been able to work out the logistics of living in the same place. They are both successful in their careers and don't want to give that up to be together, but they are feeling the strain of being apart for so long.
Finally, we meet Kelly and Alex who are both in the military. They met while serving in Iraq and fell in love quickly, but they have been stationed in different parts of the world ever since. Kelly is stationed in Afghanistan, and Alex is back in the United States. They have been communicating through Skype and email, but it's hard to feel connected when they are so far apart and in different time zones.
Throughout the episode, we see these couples dealing with the emotional toll of being separated from the person they love. They talk about the challenges of being in different time zones, the financial strain of traveling to see each other, and the difficulty of maintaining intimacy over long distances. They also talk about the benefits of being in a long-distance relationship, such as having time to focus on their own careers and interests.
We also see how technology plays a role in their relationships. They use Skype, email, and social media to stay connected, but they also talk about the limitations of virtual communication and how it can't replace face-to-face interaction.
The episode ends with each couple deciding whether to continue their long-distance relationships or call it quits. Some choose to stay together and make it work, while others realize that the distance has become too much to handle. Overall, the episode shows the complexities of long-distance relationships and how they can be both rewarding and challenging.
