As the second episode of season 5 of True Blood begins, Eric and Bill find themselves in the custody of the Authority, a powerful council of vampires who have a strict code of conduct. They are questioned about their involvement with Russell Edgington, a powerful vampire who they previously defeated but who has now been freed from his concrete tomb. The Authority believes that Eric and Bill may have helped Edgington escape, and they are determined to uncover the truth.
Meanwhile, Sookie is still reeling from the events of the previous episode, in which she accidentally killed Debbie Pelt, the werewolf who was obsessed with her boyfriend, Alcide. Sookie is wracked with guilt and struggling to come to terms with what she has done. She seeks comfort from Lafayette, who helps her to dispose of Debbie's body and promises to keep her secret.
At Fangtasia, Pam is struggling after being abandoned by Eric and facing the possibility of punishment from the Authority. Tara, who was turned into a vampire against her will in the previous season, is working as a waitress at Fangtasia and trying to come to terms with her new life. She sympathizes with Pam and decides to help her by turning herself in to the Authority and offering to serve as a bargaining chip in exchange for leniency for Pam. The plan backfires, however, when Tara is taken into custody and subjected to brutal interrogation and torture.
Back at the Authority, Eric and Bill are struggling to maintain their loyalty to the council. They are forced to drink a vial of liquid silver, which causes excruciating pain and could potentially kill them. They also witness firsthand the brutal tactics used by the Authority to maintain their hold on vampire society. The council members are ruthless and uncompromising, willing to do whatever it takes to maintain their power.
As the episode draws to a close, Eric and Bill are faced with a difficult decision. They must decide whether to remain loyal to the Authority or to fight against them, potentially putting themselves and their loved ones in danger. Sookie, meanwhile, is still dealing with the aftermath of Debbie's death and trying to keep her secret from the others in her life. Pam and Tara are both in precarious positions, facing uncertain futures as prisoners of the Authority.
Overall, "Authority Always Wins" is a tense and emotionally charged episode that sets the stage for the rest of the season. It explores themes of loyalty, power, and the consequences of one's actions, and introduces a number of new plot threads that are sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. With strong performances from the entire cast and a gripping storyline, it is a must-watch for fans of the show.
