Sookie Stackhouse, telepathic waitress of Bon Temps, Louisiana, has gone missing. Her friends and family are at a loss for her sudden disappearance. Meanwhile, vampire Bill Compton is now the king of Louisiana and is struggling to keep the peace between humans and vampires after the exposure of their existence to the world. He turns to his vampire sheriff Eric Northman for help in finding Sookie.
As the investigation into Sookie's disappearance continues, her brother Jason has a run-in with a group of mysterious men who seem to be after him. He also begins a precarious relationship with the were-panther Crystal, who warns him about the dangers of their community.
